On my way home, I stopped in my tracks, a ray of sunshine setting my surroundings on fire. Shall I? Yes, let’s stay, let’s paint again.
I was already happy for the day, the Ouatapan painting was finished and I had packed everything, desperate for some food back home. Well, the food had to wait, because I finally understood something about light and how it made the trees look – light green, dark green, blue green – depending on distance, angles and perspective. I suddenly understood contre-jour, the painting against the light when contrasts are high, but some colours just overlit.
A couple of hikers came past me, stopped and asked whether they were allowed to have a look. Of course they were. They recognised the chalet I painted before and then continued on their way.
A few drops of rain came down, but with oils, no need to worry, they won’t wash away with a little bit of water. They gave me dramatic clouds as a bonus.
